Re: 5 Speed Transmission Question

To avoid fitment problems, might want to look into a modified T-5 by Astro Performance or a G Force unit.

Re: 9 inch for ranger

There are no 9" Pintos and even then they are too narrow. I do happen to have one that came out of a Pinto but it also had a built 351. Another option is to use the 31 spline center chunk from Mustang/Explorer and have custom axles with the 31 spline and the smaller out board bearing journal, t...

Re: 331 V8 in a 98 and above Ranger help

I know of some that have swapped the old body onto the newer chassis but not the other way around. Any 302/5.0 will fit but using the front dress from the Explorer makes it a lot easier. Same goes for using the later V-8 CPU and engine harness. It's a plug and play when using the 99-2001 Explorer en...

Re: V8 swap dilemma, with VSS.

Plug and play is about it. Only splicing or re-pinning is required in the harness that feeds the A/C and starter relay. Real easy to see if you have both the wiring diagrams.

Re: V8 swap dilemma, with VSS.

Welcome to the site Bob, we're small but fun. I have the '98' Ranger and the '97' Explorer wiring both scanned it. What parts do you need? The Explorer signal from the VSS is the same as the Ranger I believe, just comes from a different source. Wiring not my field of expertice but others will sure j...

Re: Cam lift

I think the difference in the lift is just which ratio rocker is used. Summit says cam is for use with the 1.7's but don't know why. 1.6 ratio is .512 lift. YouTube has several clips of Mustangs running that cam (or the -14 instead of the -12).

Re: trying to figure out what year to go with

Chris, a lot do go with the rear Mustang brakes for the increased "performance", not looks. I don't buy into cost effective increase of braking. A good set of drum brakes work pretty good from my experience. The earlier Rangers use the same shoes as what some of the 60's performance Fords ...

Re: My AOD trans is pooched..

I was going to say that with a trans in good condition, it's usually the improper adjustment of the cable that causes failure.

Re: trying to figure out what year to go with

You can change your stock 8.8 Ranger rear end to run the stronger 31 spline axles with the right carrier and Mosler axles and do the Mustang disc brake conversion if wanted. I myself think rear disc in a truck is not needed. Quite a few running the V-8 have no problem with the rear springs, all depe...

Re: trying to figure out what year to go with

All '98'+ 4x4's were torsion bar suspension. Some 4x2's could be had with torsion also depending on model, Trailheads and Sports. All other 4x2's got the coil suspension. One of the limiting factors in the later Rangers is the lack of header options unless custom over the frame versions.
