Re: Really really don't want cats
OK I have determined I would like to know more about "that guy's" services, and if there is any way I could pay him to give me encrypted tunes that I could just laptop in myself... The cheaper option is to buy a tune and chip. But this doesn't give you the ability to do anything other tha...

Re: Motor mounts, springs
I'm not as familiar with the 98-up Ranger engine bay so I can't help with the mount issue. But you mention changing springs. Don't bother. I fell into that line of thinking and I regret it. I researched what the strongest Ranger spring was, which turned out to be 97 Ranger Supercab V6 2wd springs. T...

Re: Any chance in a blue moon this would work
Yeah, sounds like you have GT40 heads based on your description of plug angle. The GT40p plugs to have an angle, but you are right, they are much more straight out compared to traditional Windsor heads. There are very few Ranger-friendly GT40p headers out there. The Torque Monsters, FMS Explorer hea...

Re: Any chance in a blue moon this would work
The passenger side would drop right down onto the frame. Driver's side might too. You really need something that exits to the back. And even then, you'll have to notch the frame. But at least it's doable with rear-exiting headers. This also assumes you don't have GT40p (Explorer) heads with the alte...

Re: Really really don't want cats
I've heard there are secondary HEGO delete "simulators" that you connect up instead of the secondary HEGOs. The other option is to have the tune updated to not check the secondary HEGOs. It's a trivial thing to change in the tune and if that's all you want done, you can buy a new chip from...

Re: New Toy
My 89 Ranger had already been R134a converted back in the 90s. But when I did the V8 conversion, I reused the 97 Explorer's AC compressor and replaced the evaporator, condenser, and accumulator. I had no clue what orifice tube they used back then, so I just used a 92 Ranger orifice tube. I believe R...

I don't. Grayson is a haul from me. I don't recall that I've ever even been through it.

Re: V8 tach module
Here's the logic I came up with if I were going to make one of these devices. If there are additional resistors, inductors, or caps necessary to work correctly, I don't have the Electrical Engineering knowledge to know about those things. TachSignalConverter.jpg If I were going to breadboard such a ...

Re: V8 tach module
It has some wiring, but they are more a conceptual wiring schematic. They are not nearly as detailed as the actual Ford publications called "wiring diagrams". Ford Wiring Diagrams include things like wire color, the type/shape & pin number of the connector the wire connects to, as well...

Re: V8 tach module
If he has some avail, yea get one from him. I don't know, but I'm betting he hasn't sold that many of them. These just aren't commonly needed devices for the average motor head. They are quite specialized. As for the EVTMs, I found mine relatively useless. I got everything I needed from wiring diagr...

Re: Carbureted 302 AOD neutral and backup lights
The reverse switch should be pretty straight forward. As for the neutral switch, what exactly is it you want the switch to do on a carbed setup? On EFI, you want the EEC to see the neutral state so it can set ISC values correctly and a few other details that are specific to neutral/drive details. Bu...

Re: V8 tach module
I don't know if Malcolm still makes those. I've just been running my V6 tach for quite some time as-is and made peace with the fact that it's off by about 25%. I do have a logic diagram with flip-flops that basically do the same thing his device does if you want to make one of your own. It's only a ...

Re: The car I bought in 1988
I always liked the 383...as much as I can like a Chevy. A guy here at work has a late 90s S10 4wd that he's jacked up with tall tires. It looks bad @$$ but is a bit of a pig on the road since the engine is still a stock 4.3L V6. Since he rarely drives it off road anymore, I think he did drop the rea...

Re: The car I bought in 1988
It's funny because I've read so may websites and see pictures of how "technically" flawed the pre-E7TE heads were with sharp edges and the heart-shaped combustion chamber...and how they figured out how to make the combustion chamber more efficient. And I always just assumed that all those ...

Re: The car I bought in 1988
Just out of curiosity, was it stock? From what I recall, 86 Mustang 5.0Ls weren't THAT powerful. Or did estimates of HP change from the 80s such that 200hp then isn't the same as 200hp in the 90s and today? Or maybe they just had a really good torque curve...
