It finally runs again

Been quiet around here At least until the engine finally fired. Fired right away, took 10 quarts of tranny fluid and it holds in gear now. I have not pushed it, but it did make it around the block. No need to push it right away. Last time I got on it was the first time since it got the new cam. Casu...

Hood insulation is noise abaitment. Leave it.

How well does the fan shroud seal up to the radiator? Do you still have all the original trim pieces in place to keep the air flowing through the radiator and not around it?

Have you set the TPS idle voltage recently? Around .98V is generally accepted as the place it should be at during idle. The computer may have been confused and thought that you were not at idle. I have also had a sticky IAC on and old Escort wagon (great gas mileage car). It would run away on you. C...

There's the problem...

OK, broke the Ranger back in March. Did a few quick checks, didn't see anything simple. I had lost 3rd and 4th gear while passing a coworker about 3 miles before getting to work on a Friday. 4R70W and the first full throttle pass with the new cam. Is pulled great in second and felt a little bump as ...

There's also little in the way of upgrade options with the M5OD. So putting a strong 5.0L in front of one might be a life-limiting decision for the tranny. And the .8 ratio of the M5 would mean higher RPMs in 5th which is not good for fuel economy. As for the custom driveshaft issue, it's generally...

I was getting about 13, but that was with a big nasty cam that sucked. Just put in a much milder cam, it was feeling more efficient, exhaust was much cleaner, still had enough power to kill the transmission after about 50 miles on the new cam. Now to get around and figuring if it was the stub shaft ...

I think it is a mix. There appears to be a little detonation going on. I think there is some glazing as well. But I would also think there is a little rich or a little oil going on top of all that, well under it. So a little detonation, some oil or fuel carbon buildup buried under glazing. Combustio...

The 2030 was picked in an effort to keep the low end torque reduced. The Isky 265/275 drove like a 2 stroke. Not much power but when it woke up it was exciting. It just affected the low end a little too much. So the 2030 went in. Idle is much improved. Feels like it is running more efficient (better...

... Again, to give some perspective, 300hp is what I'm targeting for a future 331 stroker motor where I'll be reusing my GT40p heads, a cam VERY similar to that Crane 2020 cam, the stock Explorer intake (which is a derivative of the 5.0L Cobra intakes), stock 65mm TB, Explorer headers, aftermarket ...

You mean you hooked the MAP sensor up to the A/C vacuum port?
Yea, that could be a problem. The A/C has a check valve to hold vacuum. You need the MAP sensor to read true live vacuum. Do not branch it off into any thing else. Dedicated manifold pressure port all by itself.

Start with the basics.
Can you hear the fuel pump run? (key on and when/just after crank)
Do you have fuel pressure at the test port on the fuel rails?
Do you have any gas in the tank?
Do you have power to the injectors?

My 4R70W transmission bolted to the exact same spot as the original 4.0 auto combo did. I even centered the trans mount in the slots and tightened the bolts into the same indentions in the steel as the original. Didn't move a single thing at the trans mount. No spacers up, down, left, right or anyth...

I have already done the clutch and band chart, that is how I figured it was the direct clutch. 3rd gear never happens, just holds 2nd. As soon as I get some good pressure rated hose I will do a pressure test for the direct clutch pack. If I don't get any pressure when it should be in 3rd or 4th, I a...

Dead and parked

OK, the new cam/convertor combo made the stroker ranger so much more fun to drive. Fun enough that withen 100 miles I now have lost 3rd and 4th gear in the 4R70W. It is either the direct clutch pack or shift solenoid #2. Shift solenoid #2 has continuity. I guess my next step is to check the pressure...
