My little trip to Roush

Post by Dave »

Malcolm said I ought to post this cause a lot of you have Mustangs and crave power. Well I had the 427 HP rated Roush and got too used to driving it. Jumped on the chance to upgrade to the 540 HP new motor with the forged bottom end and the new TVS 2300 blower. Roush was saying their early tests were getting 11.8 sec's in the 1/4 all stock. A good driver and drag slicks got it down to 11.4.
This is where all the work starts. All the new GT's coming in for the conversions

New data plate for under the hood, just got it today. That's 550 HP rated but the first dyno test with this motor and blower show 500-508 RWHP with the mild tune, stock heads and cams.

Very enjoyable trip. There was a '63' Galaxie stuck over in the corner with a 511 ci in it., black convert. Ground up restoration for one of Jack's partners.

Not really too bad, still getting it broke in, had way too much rain and damp weather to really let it loose yet. Can't believe in how fast it rev's so far. Did get a set of theme new Cooper tires put on while I was out ther, they bit pretty good. good like motors!.

What size tire are you running? I bet once that motor is broke in it's gonna tear those tires up and you won't have traction till third gear and even that will be scary at times. You'll be looking for drag radials before you know it :)
Weather has been sucking here too. I just got the Cobra out for the first time today in about 2 weeks.

I'm running the new design Cooper Zeno RS3 tires, 275-40/18. Roush and Cooper worked on them to come up with a tread pattern and compound that is a good all around tire. Yes, car will come around in both first and second gear, need a good streach of straight road to see what it can really do staying on it thru third, that would be over 100 mph.

This was off in the corner also, just your standard kit car Cobra
