Rear airbag suspensions for Rangers

Post by cgrey8 »

How worth it are rear airbag setups? One of my old complaints with my Ranger is that when loaded, it really sags the back end. I considered airshocks but was warned not to bother years ago for only occasional hauling as they make the ride so stiff when there's no load. So I thought maybe airbags would let me ride more comfortably and give me the ability to pump the rear up when I've got a bed full of cinder blocks, mulch, or whatever that's heavy.

Any thoughts or experience as to whether these kits are worth the cost and install? Also it looks like they might not be an option for me given I already have James Duff traction bars. Just looking at pics of how the bags bolt in, the could interfere with the bars.

Hey Chris I know you are probably well past needing any suggestions but what I have done is there are some inexpensive coil springs you can buy that
U bolt to rearend and it sits just below the frame so with nothing in bed it rides like normal but when you add weight and truck goes down it starts hitting these springs. On some Rangers I have had to cut springs down a little shorter as I always wanted about an inch clearance so the empty ride was the same but have load help ASAP. I have always got mine at Napa but I am sure other parts places have them. I have even used them on my 3/4 ton trucks with great success. Not sure how your James Duff traction bars mount but just a thought I would give you 6 months late.

Yeah the add-a-leaf is probably going to be the easiest and cheapest way.
