92 4.0 ranger tach problems

i just bought a 92 4.0 ranger and the tach isnt working right a soon as you start it the tach reads 3k it works but it is off about 2200 rpm im not sure what drives it or what wire to check the truck runs fine any help would be great

tan/yellow stripe wire from the pcm.sounds like a bad tach,good luck

Luckily if it's a bad tach you should be able to get another cluster from a junkyard or ebay for a good price. I did for my red truck.
Is this another v8 project?

bought it to keep the miles off my tahoe(thats what i told the wife any way) probly start collecting parts its a real nice one to start with super clean ext cab with a 3:55 l 8.8 allready in it not bad for $1700
