What trans is it?

Post by bigburl »

My son just bought an '03 Mustang GT with the DOHC 4.6 and a 5 speed. What transmission should it have and how do I identify it? As always, thanks for the help.

What should be in the car is the Tremec 3650, not sure how to really identify it. Maybe this site would help a bit

So if it really is DOHC, then there's no telling without pics as to what tranny is installed?

It really is DOHC. I guess it isn't GT. It has 100th anniversary emblems instead of GT emblems. Would it carry a 3550? Does the 3550 have a seperate bell housing?

Could it be a Cobra? In 03 they had a 10th anniversary Cobra. Does it have a super charger on it?
Have any pics of the car and under the hood?

Does it have a five or six speed trans? The 3550 has a separate bell housing, not sure about the 3650. We'll get to the bottom of this. Sounds like a good ride for him (or me)!

It is a five speed. The emblems read 100th Anniversary superimposed over Ford. No pictures yet. I can't get him stopped long enough!

I lied in my last post. The emblems actually read 100 superimposed over the word centennial. This is also imbossed on the front seats.

Oh ok. That's a GT. Forgot about that. They did have centennial version of several vehicles I believe to mark 100 years of Ford Motor Co. For the Mustang GT it was just a trim package. Should be the standard SOHC motor and same 5 speed that came in all 03 GTs which I believe is the TR-3650.
