Ranger relocated gas tank

Post by dthorpe »

our 83 V-8 Ranger has has the fuel door in the bedside welded up and some type of gas tank was relocated to the rear between spring shackle mounts. The tank is filled thru the drivers side inside bed panel. tank now has a leak and needs to be repaired or replaced. was curious if anybody has ever relocated the tank, and what tank came out of. Didn't know if a tank out of a Bronco II would work or not. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here is what Greg did in his swap. Rangers used to come with an aux tank in the rear as an option. Think he used one out of a '85'. Not sure if they would be easy to find, good luck!
Page 2 shows it installed.

if it's the 85 auxilary tank, you can buy a brand new one. It's made by a company called Silla.

Here's the link that I found.

It's about halfway down the page. Costs about 140 bucks.

I think the rear tank is (at least based off) a Bronco II gas tank.
Takes the place of the spare tire. Factory duel tanks will have a bed mounted spare tire.
