mustang rear end

Post by bigburl »

Will a fox body rear end mount under my 90 ranger? Are there any width issues? Thanks in advance,
Larry

I've never tried it but I've seen other posts on here saying it's to much work. Suspension is different and it's to wide. But if you're going to build a 4 link in the rear, narrow it down and go to town.

I agree, if I was going to go to the trouble of fitting a non-Ranger rear into a Ranger, then I'd be starting with the Explorer rear.

Width should be about right. The old mustang 5 lug trick was to use 2 driver side Ranger axles and drums.

But after that, nothing else is going to be pretty. All brackets will need changing. The cast in ears on the pumpkin will have to be abandoned, hope they will clear.

When you are done, you then need to do the Ranger 5 lug trick just to bet back to 5 lug axles.

Newer fox platform (94 and up) have 5 lug, but are wider. Might as well do an Explorer and get a better parking brake.

In fact, the only non-Ranger rear I'd consider other than an Explorer 8.8" would be a 9.75" from an F-x50. From what I understand, you gotta work hard to break a good condition 8.8. I can't imagine landing enough torque to do damage to a 9.75. Those things are monsterous...

BTW, I have no clue what the lug count and spacing is for 9.75 axles, but I seriously doubt it's 5x4.5", so finding matching rims might be a challenge.

97 to 03 f150 is 5x135mm. 04 went to 6 lug, i'm not sure on the spacing.

Larry,
Not sure if you caught the web site that GregR came up with for finding parts www.car-parts.com but I just used it two weeks ago looking for a bolt in Ranger 8.8 with the 10" brakes. Had great luck finding one close, right price and the ratio I wanted. Also saw a lot of low mileage Explorer motors while I was at it.
