I've gone Turbo!!!
About a year ago I put a v8 347 stroker in it 2-bolt main. That didn't last too long before craking the weak ass block.
Recently I purchased a boss 302 block with some other goodies. Then I bought the turbo and that's where I am for now.
Here's some pics
boss 302 block
scat forged crank
scat rods
probe pistons
here's the precision pt88 turbo
here's the turbo header and the passenger header will be made soon.
btw the header is not done completely
here's a mock up of how it looks like installed

here's a video when I was building the truck n/a with the 347 stroker

and when the truck was done

Re: I've gone Turbo!!!
That's awesome. Is the new motor going to be a 347 too or is it going to be a 302 turbo?

Re: I've gone Turbo!!!
right now it's a 302 but I have room for up to a 363 stroker

Re: I've gone Turbo!!!
So is the turbo only powered by one half of the engine? how does that affect the engine, if any?

Re: I've gone Turbo!!!
Very, very nice! Still amazed at all the aftermarket support for the 5.0. One question I was always going to ask about these larger blocks is the distrubutor. World Products said they were able to get the larger displacements by relocating the oil pump/distributor. Still able to use the old 5.0 distributor? These new blocks really do open the door up for some hot motors. Nice job! Keep us posted on the progress.

Re: I've gone Turbo!!!
No. The turbo is going to be powered by both exhausts, like thisMalcolmV8 wrote:So is the turbo only powered by one half of the engine? how does that affect the engine, if any?
But since it's a custom installation I have to trial fit the headers.

So do you have a cage good for 9's?
if it has wheels or tits it will give you trouble.

That exhaust setup is slick. Keep us posted I'd like to see how that works out.

You could use the old distributor but i guess it would be pointless.
I'm using a msd billet distributor and a melin high volume wet oil pump.

Re: I've gone Turbo!!!
Be careful with your max displacement. A lot of people are shying away from running the 3.4 stroke in the boss blocks being the cylinders are actually a little shorter, and can't support the piston properly on the downstroke. Just a word of advice. I'm sure there are still people doing it though... That was what turned me away from running the Boss block. Picked up a Dart instead to acheive 363ci.
On the other hand, your stock block cracked with a N/A 347? wow... I've pushed mine past 550rwhp with a vortech before calling it quits to save my internals... now it's the 347 for the ranger... lol

Re: I've gone Turbo!!!
Typically it's not so much the engine block, but how well everything is tuned that does or does not wreck an engine. What I mean by that is mainly how everything is balanced and whatnot. Obviously forced induction is alot more harsh than a naturally aspirated counterpart.
Re: I've gone Turbo!!!
This is what I was talking about... not the combination of parts or tuning... "The Boss has a shorter cylinder length, which makes rod bolt clearancing of the cylinders obsolete, but it may limit the amount of stroke and compression height you can run. The bigger you go on stroke, the more the piston protrudes out of the bottom of the cylinder. The Boss cylinders are approximately 0.400-inch shorter in length than a stock or R block."
