t5 clutch/ master cylinder
i am putting a t5 trans in my 85 ranger and i was wondering if i can use the stock master cylinder or would i have to use one out of something else to covert it to a hydraulic clutch?
Re: t5 clutch/ master cylinder

Re: t5 clutch/ master cylinder
Do i need some sort of special line that will connect form the master to the slave or is their a kit i can get that will bolt right up?
thanks for the help.
thanks for the help.
Re: t5 clutch/ master cylinder
I used a slave for a 84 2.8L 2wd Ranger. Its and external slave. I think the line I got was for an older f-150. It was longer and its a plastic line. The nipples go right into the Ranger master and slave. Then had to make a flate plate to bolt to the T-5 bell housing...
I think you can also get some braded line and cut the fitting out of the plastic line and clamp them back on. I have seen that also. Either that, it was a kit someone was able to get...

I used these adapters:

With a length of braided line. I used an '89-ish master (said to be 7/8" bore, I won't argue whether it was or wasn't...) as my '97 had a 5/8" bore that would not work. My slave is from an '83/'84 Ranger diesel (mounts like a typical generic Nissan/Datsun slave).

Re: t5 clutch/ master cylinder
Teddy, you meant the master, correct? Any idea of what the bore is for the slave and what travel did you get at the lever?Teddyzee wrote:I used these adapters:

Re: t5 clutch/ master cylinder
Oh crap... Yes, I meant master cylinder!!
(I edited it for future clarity)
The Ranger slave is 3/4", same as most of the Nissan/Datsun stuff.
Mine is set with some preload on the clutch fork, but the slave has enough travel to operate well. I'm able so set the preload so it can total disengage the clutch, no grinding into gear, and also has no slipping. It took a while for me to get it right. Preload is probably an inch and a half from where it would otherwise rest.
I'm not sure of the total travel at the clutch fork. But I did set it up so the slave pushes on the big hole in the '87-'93 T5 clutch fork, closer to the center of the truck. I first had it on the outer hole, but it did not provide enough travel. The leverage was awesome, though, and took minimal pedal effort!!
Here is the original (outer hole) that gave easier pedal, but less travel: (pedal effort is still much, much less than the cable clutch on my '97 Mustang GT)
You can also see the braided line with a 90*, the adapter fitting, and the Ranger slave, the Tri-Y, and the fancy angle iron bracket.
There is more room there than the image shows.
