"1. Looking at the gearing indications on mercuranger's site (http://www.mercuranger.com/t5tremec.htm), it appears I can get a T5 with some very low gears (3.35 in 1st) and .675-.68 in 5th which gives a very broad range for good takeoff and cruising. His site is the ONLY site I've seen that indicates a T5 with this wide of a gear ratio. That tends to indicate to me that finding such trannys won't be an easy task. I believe your Explorer 8.8" RE is 3.73:1. What are your T5 gear ratios and how does it pull in 1st/2nd and cruise in 5th with those ratios?"

I am by no means a T5 expert but since I'm busy rebuilding mine I've searched around and asked questions. It would appear the 3.35 1st gear is pretty much factory. There was never a factory 2.95 1st gear offered. This is strictly aftermarket (info from D&D Performance). The gear swap would have cost me an additional $450 and would have given a much more usable 1st and 5 gears. I believe 2nd, 3rd, and 4th all stay the same. Right now I find my 1st is pretty useless. You're bearly moving and it's time for second and 5th gear seems to have the rpm up pretty high on the highway. After I'm done tinkering and have driven the truck for a while I think I will probably swap out the 3:73s for some 3:55s or even 3:27s. Much cheaper than getting a T56.

"2. Would lower gearing in 1st be nicer or just make it easier to create tire smoke (thus the std T5 1st gear of 2.95 is good enough)? I have intentions of putting 15" rims at some point, but for the meantime, factory rims and tires will work fine especially since those are details for the far future compared to where I'm at now."

2.95 was never offered from the factory according to D&D Performance. If you can find a T5 that someone put 2.95 gears in go for it. Very nice. Otherwise 3.35 1st with 3:73 gears is kinda steep in my experience but it's perfectly livable. Lots of people do it.

"3. Do you have any pics of the AC box so I can see how much you chucked out and how much clearance the chunk gave you to the valve cover?"

I do. Haven't had a chance to post these yet.

As a sidenote, I found a site that does have some really nice pics of an AC Box mod, but I didn't save the site. However I did save the pics off to my harddrive. I just wish I could remember whose site it was so I could reference others to it. If anybody actually wants them, email me:

I just wish I could credit the author."

"4. I know in my existing V6, the passenger side sparkplugs are not exactly easy to get to. You only mention the driver side back plug being an issue. How are the passenger side back plugs?"

Passanger's side are actually quite easy.

"5. I believe your pics showed an engine with aluminum heads on the block decks. They sortof looked like Edelbrock Performance but I couldn't tell. Can you give some details on the heads & pistons? CCs, estimated compression, Intake/Exhaust valve diameters, etc. "

Stock 95 Mustang GT block with Edelbrock 6037 heads and Edelbrock EFI Performer intake. Then it's just the usual bolt ons, msd distributor, msd ignition, under drive pullies, 24lb injectors, 65mm TB, 70mm mass air etc. etc.

"6. If you had it to do over again, would there be a different head/header combo that would've fixed more issues than they caused?"

Nope. The L&L headers I used are the nicest I've ever seen and the fit is very impressive. Only down side is they carry a price tag to match.

"7. I've always wanted to use Trick Flow's Twisted Wedge heads however I've NEVER had anybody say anything good about them. It's either been they suck or they are just ok. You have a pic on the site with some Trick Flow valve covers leading me to believe you may have experience or know the person that does have experience with Twisted Wedge heads."

I believe the pic you are refering to belongs to a guy who goes by DeRanger on the message board. I have no experience with them.
