You can get by for a while with the 7.5. I had mine for a few years. You can also buy taller tires to help with your RPM problem. I can give you the formulas if you want. You have a limited range with the C4/C6 to change trans speedo gears to compensate for different tires. I don't know anything about the FMX. Heavy trans I hear.

: Ive just recently got my 86 ranger put together. Its got a 289 out of 66 mustang with an fmx automatic out of a 78 ltd with a shift kit. My truck has the factory 7.5 rear end with 345 gear. It goes 55 mph @ 2600rpm. I plan on putting an 8.8 with 355 gear in it. I like the gear in it but I want something stronger.
