If you can rub over the rubber seal and not get black smudges on your finger, then the seal probably is new. A seal even a few years of age will rub off onto your finger with a thin film of black smudge.

They probably knew it was bad and replaced it shortly before selling it. The good news is with the exception of stubborn bleeders, the major components can be replaced with not much effort nor cost. I think loaded calipers, rear cyliders, drum brake hardware, and shoes for my truck were under $150 from Advance Auto(not including the core charges that you get back).

However, I wouldn't stop there. I'd replace the rubber lines that go to your front calipers as well. Rubber lines can be about to blow, but look fine on the outside. However most of the time, you can see where the blowout is stressing the outside of the line and creating a bubble. If you do replace the lines, have fun getting them off the metal lines with a truck from Salt Country...you thought the bleeders were bad. You'll probably find a vise-grip is your friend even if it does gall up the line-nut.
