You could look at the rear end. Is it a stock 7.5 inch rear or a 8.8 or 9" rear? The 7.5" is a little weak but OK if you don't use big tires and have a lot of power. The rear end gear ratio and tire size is important. I had a 7.5" with 3:73.1 and 14" tires. This meant that at 60 MPH I was spinning over 3000 RPM. I changed to 15" 28.5" tall tires and dropped my RPM some. A posi trac is important and not real common in the Rangers. I installed a locker type traction device called Protrac. Worked great and not too expensive.

: G'day! I recenetly purchased a 1985 ranger with a 302 and she rumbles like thunder! its a carbuerated 302 and has a c5 automatic transmission. I was wondering if anyone could e-mail me with some good pointers as to what i should do first to the truck..any helpful hints that would help me with my new project would be great! and i would love to here about other v8 rangers! thanks alot!
