It appears the differences between the 302 and HO not in the block. Thus the HO is more of a "package" of parts (heads, intake, cam, etc) where the most major difference is the HO cam defines a different firing order(FO). Why? To the best I can figure, this makes the 302 HO have the same FO as the 351W. However I don't see any obvious benefit in the difference in FO.

Now the big question...is the higher performance of the 302 HO have anything at all to do with the FO? It seems to me the HO's claim to fame is thanks to the higher performance of the parts (cam, heads, intake, etc). In otherwords, if I had a standard FO cam with the same grind characteristics as the HO cam, would this not perform exactly the same (theoretically)?

Any other thoughts or ideas are welcome.

Chris
