: 3.73s along with a 3.35 1st gear in the T5 just seem like you aren't getting a 5-speed tranny, but rather an effective 4-speed with a granny.

Humm that's about right. I never thought of it like that but you're exactly right.

: Any higher than a 3.27, and the 5th gear is in danger of becoming useless below 70-80MPH.

Shouldn't be. Mustangs came from the factory with 2:73 gears for a while. The 3.08 gears in my 95 GT were optional and I thought very well matched. 3.27s were offered for automatics.

:Factory ratios generally focus on getting into 5th around 45MPH, but 5th is still good down to around 40ish.

That's kinda how my truck is now with the 3:73s. Maybe worse. At around 45 to 50mph it feels about how it should be cruising on the highway. Way to steep. I can accelerate in 5th at 45mph.
I can turn corners at low speeds in 3rd and accelerate like I was in second.

:However, I don't mind if 5th isn't usable until around 55.

That's how my 94 Ranger is. I can cruise at 45mph in 5th but really if I hit a hill or need to accelerate 5th is only really an option from about 55+mph.

: Once you get this worked out, I'm interested to hear what kind of fuel economy it gets on everyday driving (not lead-footin’ it).

Hummm that might be hard :) This is not my daily driver. I built it to have fun in. None the less the motor has to get broken in etc. so there'll be some nice driving.
What's going to be hard is consistancy. When filling up a fuel cell it's not like a regular gas tank that clicks off at the same time each time. You just kinda full up to the hole more or less.

Later
