Why don't you talk to one of the rear end shops like Mouser or Strange, one of the companies that make and sell axles for high performance. I forget some of the companies names right now, blond moment. Changing axles is no biggie IMHO. Hope this sorts the truck problem out. While your at it may be a good idea to go to 31 spline axles, just get a 31 spline centre section, I had a locker in my truck. Good investment. Mine was called Powertrax I got it at Summit.

: I'm no expert on rearends by a long shot but here's some readings I got.
: I pulled off the wheels and brake disk and used a dial indicator gauge on the flange of the axle.
: Driver's side
: 19 thousands runout. Seems a bit much doesn't it?
: Pass side
: 8 or 9 thousands.
: I then pulled the assembly apart and checked the axles.
: Driver's side runout on the outer axle surface 45 thousands. Measuring in about 7 1/2" in from the flange 19 thou, just before the spline on the other end 25 thou, just after the c-clip (end of shaft) 32 thou.
: I've searched the web and can't find any official specs for the Ford 8.8 axles and what is acceptable runout but those seem a bit much to me. Plus the bearings surface on the driver's side axle is scored.
: I have a feeling my axles are no good. Oh and also on the splined end of the axles they are a blue discoloration like they've gotten very hot at some time in their life.
: Oh and the reason I'm tearing it apart is Aamco couldn't find anything wrong with my T5 either. They said everything I described sounded like a vibrating rearend that was transmitting up the drive shaft and making the tranny seem to be at fault.
: Later
