Simulating 70mph with the wheels in the air is almost always a 2-man job if you want to do it safely and even then you have to wear kid-gloves.

As for your wabble, pay special attention to see if it's the rim or the tire that's wabbling. VERY often, the rim is perfect, and it's the tire that's out of true (not perfectly round or off center with the rim centerline). When I was working in the autoshop, I could balance a tire, and see the tire terribly out of true, but the rim be perfectly round. Sad to say, but I've seen brand new high-mileage tires like that. The tires I never saw this with were low-profile stiff-wall sport tires. They were always very true.

If the rim is bent, you'll see that spinning the tire with your hand. However I believe Dave's right on. Swap the rim and see if the problem follows the rim or stays with the Axle. If they are expensive rims, I'd almost cross my fingers for it being an axle. This COULD be the source of your audible vibration, but I don't see how it would only happen in 5th gear. I've heard of weirder though....

I'm curious to know what this ends up being.

Chris
