I don't know if this is true of all vehicles, but it's been my experience that it's common to get way worse noise from a vehicle when the wheels are not loaded. You hear all the slop in the gears and components. It's really bad on frontwheel drive vehicles when you get the CV's to moving good.

To get rid of that, you might want to drag it some by having the brake held or pushing in on the parking brake (partially, not all the way). This will give you some resistance and keep things tight while you are down there with a screw-driver listening around to what could be making the vibe you are hearing.

Like I said, I don't know that this will be an issue for you, but it's just my 2-cents worth. I have little experience with Trannys so diagnosing a noise is not gonna be something I'll know much about.
