I'm guessing that's the problem too. I put back everything that was there before. Who ever opened this tranny before me may have lost something though. When I first opened up the tranny it didn't even have a retainer clip to hold the speedo drive gear in place.

All the PDFs I found on the net show the older 5th gear setup that do not have that 5th/reverse brake so I'm not exactly sure what it's supposed to be like (in terms of parts). I think I'll measure the end play with my dial indicator gauge and then take it apart and call D&D and tell them the order of parts and they can tell me if I'm missing anything or if that's the way it's supposed to be.
